How to Retrieve Outlook Data after System Crash

Cross-communication via emails is one of the common scenarios nowadays. Microsoft Outlook plays a significant role in this. It is a globally accepted platform, which is used in various organizations. Method 1: Connect the Hard Drive to Other System

In case, the hard drive is healthy, then you can easily connect it to another machine for regaining Outlook data files. You need to use a USB enclosure for the old hard drive. Follow these below-mentioned steps: 

1.   Once you connect the old drive to the new machine, then open Windows Explorer
2.   Now, browse your old drive
3.   In MS Outlook 2010/ later versions, PST stored in Outlook files folder in My Documents

If you have Windows XP/ older versions on your machine, then old PST location will be: 
[new_drive_letter]:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

In case, your old machine had Windows OS 7 or Windows Vista or later with an old version Outlook, then default location would be:
[new_drive_letter]:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

 4. All the files must be kept safely with the help of permission settings. Hence, to modify the settings, you need to right click on old username folder and then, go to the Properties 

5. After this, on the General tab, unmarked Hidden and hit on Apply

6.  Once you have done this, on the Security tab, navigate to Edit and then hit on Add. Give the new account/ everyone “Full Control”, which is followed by a click on Apply.

Then, browse folders to search your PST files and copy all of them to a new machine. Unicode PST can access this file in your new profile. Nevertheless, in case, it is ANSI PST, then hit the File>>Open>>Import, for importing it into MS Outlook 2010.

Method 2: Run Scanpst.exe

Another method is to repair the PST file. For this, they can use Inbox Repair Tool or Scanpst.exe. This is an inbuilt utility, which has the capability to repair both PST and OST file. It verifies all errors and tries to repair them. However, it can only recover those OST/PST files that are corrupted in a minor way. As a result, users cannot rely on this fully.

If Manual Solution Fails: Go for Third Party

As discussed above, repairing Outlook data files manually does not provide guaranteed results. Therefore, users need a product or application in which they can rely on completely.
